About
Emily Alice Rooney is a self-taught artist working predominantly with oils, creating romantic, moody paintings that explore femininity, beauty and desire through rich texture, movement and atmosphere. Her work is raw and expressive, marked by visible brushstrokes, soft abstraction and an emotional, dreamlike quality.
Influenced by Victorian Gothic aesthetics, Gothic literature, medieval art, fairy tales, Greek mythology, fantasy, flowers and overgrown gardens, she creates paintings that feel ethereal, intimate and otherworldly. Drawing from stories and imagery that shaped her childhood, her work blends romance and melancholy with a sense of mystery and escapism.
She paints from her home studio in Sydney, where she lives with her husband, daughter and dog, Miss Pickles.
